Sudata Stupas [ Kachchi Kuti ]

This ancient mound of ruins, also known as Kachchi Kuti, located a few distance to Pakki Kuti. Its modern name as Kachchi kuti linked with renovation ( Kachcha Brick ), A topmost shrin made by Sadhu, lived there. There are a pathways, that linked with Nausahra Darwaza and Kan Bhari Darwaza of City Wall.

Ananda Bodhi Tree


The famous and sacred Bodhi Tree of the Buddhists tradition, Also known by Ananda Bodhi Tree & Maha Bodhi Tree, This holiest tree stands just near in-front of the ruins of Jetavana Monastery. This famous tree has surrounded by a brick wall with all side and also with a entry gate.

A branch of Maha Bodhi Tree in Bodhgaya, which was planted here by Ven. Anada as an object of veneration, at the time of lord Budha. This holiest tree still today stood and servives there at the time of lord Budha. To protect Ananda Bodhi Tree from any type damage due to strong wind, the Indian Government has provided steel stresses, to support them as by steel dilapidated.

The holiest Bodhi tree is famous for the tree under which the Lord Budha took his enlightenment. Here thousands of people like as Devotees, Pilgrims, Monks & Visitors come from all over India and also from foreign country like Sri Lanka, Japan, China and more. Also devotees worship with milk, curd, and perfumes such as sandalwood, camphor and so on.

Story of the plantation of Ananda Bodhi Tree:
  1. Ananda obtained the lords Budha Permission to plant a sapling of the Bodhgaya Bodhi Tree.
  2. Mahamoggallana, who was famous for his supernatural powers, volunteered to bring the sapling.
  3. But it was the wish of every one that king Pasendi should plant it but he declined the honor saying that the tenure of king was uncertain and his successors may take care of it all time to come.
  4. Thereupon Sudata ( Anathapindika ) was selected for the honor and with great ceremonies, he planted it in front of the monasteries.
  5. Lord Budha blessed and sanctified it by passing one whole night it in meditation.
  6. From that time, it took the place of the teacher during his absence for the devotees to make their offerings.

Jetavana Vihara,Jetavana Mahavihara

Sudata was the wealthy merchant of Sravasti at the time of Prasenajita, Prasenajita was the king of Sravasti. The fame of the Lord Budha reached the Sravasti through the famous merchant Sudata.

At the first meeting with lord Budha he became his follower an invited to Shravasti. But Lord Budha could not accept the request of Sudata, because there was no monasteries (Vihara) to recieve them.

So Sudata returned and tried to search a place that could be suitable site. So in this way near the Sravasti, he
founed a Park of prince Jeta, that could be a suitable site for Lord Budha. But King Jeta demanded exarbitant money like as many Gold pieces, So Sudata agreed.

So this was the first Vihara, buielt by Sudata for the lord Budha and his disciples, called as JETAVAN VIHARA or JETAVAN Garden.or Jetvana Mahavihara

How to reach Sravasti

Today Sravasti is a district and located in the State of Uttar Pradesh in India, Here anyone can reach easily from anywhere by the Road, Train & Air route.

About Bus Route:

Today Shravasti is well connected by the Roads with all the major Cities & Town, Its situated on the main road of  Balrampur and Baharaich city, So anyone can reach here very easily and comfortably from each places by using Government Roadways Buses and also by Trains. Today day by day its improving and so other conveyance are also available likes as Taxies, Jeeps etc at Balrampur and Bahraich city. The major cities like as Gorakhpur, Gonda and Lucknow today are linked with NH 29, SH-05 & SH-26 Roads.

About Rail Route:

Here Balrampur Railway Station is the nearest railway station, Approx 17 K.M from the Srawasti. Also the Balrampur railway station is directly connected to the Gorakhpur and Gonda Junction with Loop Line Via Anand Nagar & Barhni, And these junction provides direct trains that connect this famous location to the major citiis of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Banglore, Barauni, Cochin, Gujarat and Bihar. So anyone can easily reach Shravasti from any corners of India via Gorakhpur or Gonda junction.

Now today from Barhni - AnandNagar to Gorakhpur is linked with Broad Gauge Loop Line, But from Gonda - Balrampur - Tulsipur to Barhni is linked with Narrow Gauge Loop Line, This Loop Line is still in working process to converting them to Broad Gauge Loop Line.

About Air Route:


Also here the nearest Airport is Lucknow and Gorakhpur, where Lucknow Airport is approx 151 kilometre from the Shravasti, and Gorakhpur Airport is approx 200 kilometre but does't have daily flights, these two Airports are connected to the major cities of India.

Angulimala Stupa, Pakki Kuti


Angulimala Stupas are also known as Pakki Kuti, Any one can easly reach to Pakki Kuti by Sobhnath Darwaza, by a linked road with Shobhnath Temple to Pakki Kuti. Where Pakki Kuti is one of the two largest mound inside, the other being Kachch Kuti. The modern name Pakki Kuti is supposed to be derived from the fact that a Muslim Mendicant had once made the mound his residence. Kunningham propossed to identify it with the remains of the stupa of Angulimala seen by the chinese pilgrims.


Story of Angulimal Daku:

Here the cave of Angulimala Dakoo, is very famous site and it is placed just half K.M far from the main road of Shravasti .The Angulimala Dakoo was very much affected by Lord Gautam Budha and their preaches.

Angulimala, whose name means "finger garland", he was a wicked man who harassed the city and country, because he killing the people and cutting a finger of each person, and killed in order to make a garland for the presentation to his guru as Guru Dakshina.

He was about to kill his own mother in order to make up the required number of fingers when the lord Budha intervened and then the Angulimala Dakoo was very much affected by Lord Gautam Budha and their preaches.

Ananda Bodhi Tree

Ananda Bodhi tree planted by Lord Gautam Buddha disciple, to the north-east of Gandha Kuti & Kosamba kuti in the Jetvana Garden. This tree is present at this time also here from those times.

Kachchi Kuti

This is the most important excavated structure situated in the Mahet.It is identified with the stupa of Sudata popularly known as anathpindika. It is known as kachchi Kuti in view of the fact that a sadhu made temporary shrine of Kachcha bricks on the top of this structure.from Kachchi Kuti there are pathways leading to the city gates Nausahra Darwaza and Kand Bhari Darwaza.

Pakki Kuti

This monument located in Mahet known as Pakki Kuti is excavated remains of stupa it is identified with the stupa of Angulimala. It is also stated to have been built as "Hall of Law" in the honour of Lord Budha by king Prasenjit.

Angulimala Stupa: (the Cave of Angulimala Dakoo)

Where the cave of Angulimala Dakoo, is very famous and it is placed just half K.M far from the main road of Shravasti.The Angulimala Dakoo was very mouch affecteted by Lord Gautam Budha and their preaches.

Five Gateways

The five gateway of the city, as described in Buddhist literature like Rajgarh Darwazas, Naushera Darwazas, kandbari Darwazas, Somnath Darwazas and Imli Darwazas, may be seen even currently by the evidence of their dilapidated remains.

Sahet, Mahet, Sahet Mahet

The ancient city of Shravasti, today is a spreading of ruins, that is known by the couple names, as Sahet Mahet.

Sahet:

This famous site, as Sahet is located on the Balrampur to Bahraich main road, just north side, near about of 400 meters.It consist mainly of plinths and foundations of monasteries and stupas related to Lord Gautam Buddha.It was the most famous site of Budhist Monastery, known as JETAVANA MAHAVIHARA, At present, here are only the founadations of some remains like Temples, Stupas, Monasteries as like Gandha Kuti, Kosamba kuti, and Jetavana Garden.where Lords Buddha stayed and used to deliver sermons.

This famous budhist monasteries, Jetavana Vihara, was constructed by Sudata ( Anathpinika ), after purchasing garden of Jeta, was the son of king Prasenjita. Also a most famous Ananda Bodhi Tree is today stood and survives here, from Budhism tradition.



Mahet: ( Shravasti City )

Where Mahet is situated about half K.M north side of the Sahet, famous by the Shravasti city. It is situated south side of the famous Rapti river, Its old name was Achiravati, which flows a few distance away.

The entire city was fortified whose remains are at present seen in the high earthern ramparts surrounding it.This site is larger than Sahet in area wise. Here the five Gateways of city wall, as described in Buddhist literature like Rajgarh Darwazas, Naushera Darwazas, kandbari Darwazas, Somnath Darwazas and Imli Darwazas, may be seen even currently by the evidence of their dilapidated remains.

The main road of Balrampur and Bahraich, linked with Sobhnath Darwaza of Mahet, by a branch road.
Two famous stupas of this site are Angulimala Stupa, also known as Pakki Kuti, and second is Sudata Stupa, as known as Kachchi Kuti.
